As I understand it, keeping in mnd I am a necro newbie myself, MM's need monk as secondary to heal and maintain their minions.

Depending on what you are looking for. MM only (absolutely, no ifs and or buts) or MM for now, maybe something else later on.

While it is true you can change your character's 2nd profession later on in the game, sometimes it just isn't worth the bother (sometimes it is).

If you want it for looks as well, many find the Tyrian Necromancer the "better looking one". If you don't mind the looks of a Canthan Necromancer, then you have two other options to consider.

N/Me is the most versatile, but many people like the healing that comes with the N/Mo. This is because of the large sacrificing a Necromancer must do to keep their undead army around for awhile. Minions suffer from health degeneration, so they die without constant healing.

N/Rit is okay, but the healing isn't as good for MM (but recouperation may be helpful for a small while).

N/W is not used for MMing, its more for the Melee or stance Necro.

N/A is another Canthas combo (N/Rit is the first) where you can teleport around.

N/E doesn't really help, but can be more defensive than most other N/x.

N/R again, doesn't really have many benefits, but a portable corpse may be interesting

Hope this helps.

Best for MM only is N/Mo I guess, best for variety, N/Me, best for Minion Bombing may end up being Rit/N (although not 100% convinced on that.)

There's a Balanced MM build on the same page as this, Carinae's Balanced MM Build. Check that one out.
